Michelle Cranston - Sports Psychologist
Michelle has been employed in the fitness industry for 9 years, in a variety of roles including sport psychologist, personal trainer / fitness advisor, exercise rehabilitation consultant, and eating behaviour counsellor.
Michelle has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) with an accredited major in psychology. In addition, she has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Exercise and Sport Science, and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology. Michelle is currently completing her final semester of a Professional Doctorate of Applied Sport Psychology at Victoria University.
As part of the doctoral course, Michelle is completing a thesis on eating behaviour. Her research involves looking at why people eat, in an attempt to aid long term weight loss through changing behaviour, rather than using fad diets.
Using her sport psychology background, Michelle has helped a variety of athletes ranging from recreational to Olympic squad level. Her work includes both group presentations, and one-on-one sessions with athletes from a range of sports including diving, Australian Rules Football, basketball, baseball, and golf.
Sport psychology can assist with performance enhancement including anxiety / stress management, goal setting, confidence, imagery / visualisation and communication skills.
Sport psychology may also be beneficial to overall health and wellbeing, assisting with depression, anxiety disorders, over training / burnout, coping with injury / rehabilitation, weight management, body image concerns, and career transition.
